Mid-Century Vintage Pyrex Refrigerator Dish Spring Blossom Crazy Daisy w/Ribbed Glass Lid- in 1 1/2 cup size. This adorable little refrigerator casserole dish is just large enough for making a single casserole or saving the last little bit of your favorite dish for an easy reheat. Vintage Pyrex dishes are durable oven proof glass made to go from the refrigerator to the oven to the table.

History:
Originally Corning's Pyrex was made of borosilicate glass, a special type of glass made with boron oxide. The added boron oxide allows Pyrex to handle heat much better than typical glass. Pyrex is commonly used in kitchens and labs where dishes go from hot to cold quickly. Vintage pyrex dishes were made to be taken out of the oven and set on a cool surface without breaking.

In 1998, Corning sold the brand to World Kitchen LLC. The glass quality is not what it used to be. The newer dishes don't hold up to the hot/cold transition due to the fact that they no longer include the more expensive borosilicate in the glass.

Crazy fun fact- apparantly turning cocaine into crack requires "bringing the solution of water and powdered cocaine to a very high temperature and then rapidly cooling it." the switch in formulas made it hard for the drug trade to get the pans and instruments they needed to make this stuff (nowiknow.com). The new pyrex can't handle the hot to cold temperature and can actually shatter.
