Astragalus is the root of a pea plant primarily grown in northern and eastern China. It is typically harvested after plants have been growing for at least four years. It has become the source os a very popular medicine called huang qi commonly found in China and used for used to fight colds, flus and upper respiratory infections.

There are early and recent scientific studies suggesting that astragalus (either alone or in herbal combination) may benefit the immune system. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is now at the forefront of studies looking into the benefits or effects of astragalus root on human immunity.
When making tea, boil three to six grams of dried root per 12 ounces of water three times a day. One ounce of astragalus will go a long way. An ounce is approx. 30 grams.
You can get a tincture of astragalus in 30 percent ethanol.
